Endodontic Treatment (Root Canal Therapy): If your tooth's nerve is irreversibly damaged, the nerve is removed and filling material is placed in the canal. After treatment you will need to contact your general dentist for further restorative treatment.
Apical Surgery: The most common endodontic surgery, apical surgery, is generally recommended when an infection persists at the root tip following endodontic therapy. Through surgery, Dr. Scherer will make an opening in the gum tissue near the affected tooth and remove the inflamed tissue at the end of the root. A small filling may be placed to seal the root end. Then, Dr. Scherer will place a few stitches to assure healing.
Hemisection: This surgical treatment, in which the tooth is divided in half, allows Dr. Scherer to save a portion of the tooth structure so that it can, with a complete restoration, function once again as a healthy tooth.
Root Amputation: This surgical treatment allows you to maintain your tooth if one of the roots is damaged. One root is surgically removed allowing the gums to heel and in most instances allows you to keep your present crown minimizing your expense. |
